Information for Prospective Students (Graduate or Otherwise)

I am always looking for energetic students to work on various projects. If you are interested in invertebrate biology (mollusks in particular) and/or phylogenetics, contact me and we can discuss the possibilities.

Be forewarned: my style as an advisor is to be relatively hands-off -- I do not hover over my students, require daily meetings or updates, or anything like that. I will help you develop a thesis/dissertation project, get up to speed, and help you navigate through the requirements of our program. I will always be available for guidance, advice, etc., but your thesis/dissertation research is yours. I will not do it for you. I will allow you to make mistakes (and you will) and I will try to help you learn from them. This sort of relationship suits some students very well (and it's really the only type of relationship I ever had with any of my mentors), but if you think you will need someone to hold your hand and walk you through your degree, I'm not that person and I advise you to look elsewhere.

If I haven't scared you away...I will be continuing to work on various projects in systematics and molluscan biology, and some of these projects would be great places for a student to start. If you have your own ideas of what you'd like to do, let me know!
